The 2008 Flat Fender Frenzy was held August 15 through 17. This year because the Richland Furnace area near Wellston Ohio has been closed, we opted fot Haspin Acres near Laurel Indiana. This is a 750 wooded acre private off road park and we share it with ATVs and Moto Cross bikes. It was a beautiful top and windshield down weekend as the weather cooperated very well.
Some of the group started arriving Friday morning about 9:30 am and by 11:30am camp was setup and we were heading out for a trail ride guided by Dave Patterson. Dave has a 47 CJ2A with a V6 and has considerable experience at Haspin Acres. As a result Dave was the trail guide all weekend. Thanks a million Dave.
The Friday morning trail ride included some "tame" trails but were sufficient to cause one of the major fatalities of the weekend Cy's 1945 column shift CJ2A decided to spit a ball out of the right front bendix axle joint. We towed it back to camp and effected a repair as Ric had a spare axle (the way he drives, he sometimes needs one). By 3:00p most of the group had arrived and we went back out for a second trail ride.
Dinner was a short expidition to the Laurel Hotel and consisted of a excellent seafood and beef buffet. We all ate too much.(burp). After dinner we returned to camp for the usual conversation and comradery.
Saturday morning we were up early and ate breakfast at camp and the rest of the group arrived. By 9:00am we were in an open field with 12 count 'em 12 Flat Fender Willys Jeeps ready for the trail. That is a record.
The Trail ride on Saturday morning was excellent and we returned mto camp for lunch. The Saturday afternoon trail ride was supurb, Dave lead us to a wonderful hill climb play ground and by the time we headed out I believe everyone was satisfied with the days wheeling.
